Some Forgeries in the George Asch Collection
The
Transjordan
collection
of
George
Asch
was
auctioned
in
New
York
by
Ivy
and
Mader
Philatelic
Auctions,
Inc.
on 27 June 1995.
At
the
time
of
this
sale,
considerable
research
had
been
done
by
the
Arabian
Philatelic
Association,
Dhahran,
Saudi
Arabia,
and
information
about
the
forged
stamps
of
the
Hejaz
was
available.
It
would
appear
that,
as
now,
many
collectors
of
Transjordan
stamps
were
unaware,
or
did
not
want
to
be
aware,
of
such
forgeries
and
several
of
these
forgeries
with
Transjordan
overprints,
and
thus
bogus
items,
were
offered
in
the
sale.
The
illustrations
in
the auction catalogue were clear enough for some of these items to be identified and they are reproduced here.
